Frequently Asked Questions

Clients

While Meals on Wheels is most commonly known as a service provided to the aging community, we can provide meals to clients of all ages and abilities. If you need our help, we can help out.

We deliver meals Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays). We can deliver a supply of additional fresh, or frozen meals, to help cover weekends and public holiday periods. Our deliveries typically happen in the morning.

We deliver meals to clients in suburbs across Brisbane and surrounding areas. To confirm that we can deliver meals to you, please get in touch on (07) 3354 3919 or services@mownorthwest.org.au.

Yes, somebody needs to be at your home to receive the meals. We are unable to leave food unattended due to food safety regulations. As part of our service, we also check in with clients during each delivery, to ensure that they are not in need of medical assistance or additional support. If you aren’t able to be at home during your typical delivery window, let us know in advance and we can arrange an alternative time.

Meal Questions

Our meal package includes a main meal, soup, and dessert. Each component can be ordered individually. Sandwiches can also be added to your meal order.

Our team of professional chefs are happy to cater to clients with allergies and intolerances, as well as those needing different types of meals (soft, blended, pre-cut, etc). We offer a selection of meals from a variety of different cuisines, so there’s usually something to suit everybody. If not, please get in touch and we’d be happy to work out a solution that suits you.

Due to food safety regulations, we typically do not deliver hot meals. We deliver fresh and frozen meals, and take the time to ensure that our clients are able to heat the meals themselves.

In exceptional circumstances we can deliver hot meals, noting that this may pose a food safety risk if the meal is not consumed immediately. We are happy to chat with you if this is something you require.

Funding Questions

There are no lock-in contract terms. Some clients may only need meals delivered for a short period, while there are many clients who stay with us for years.

Payments are made by cash, cheque, EFTPOS, credit card or bank transfer. For more information about how and when to pay your account, please contact our office.

Due to government regulations, our meal prices differ depending on what type of funding you receive. Some funding programs stipulate that clients cover a particular part of the meal. Some programs stipulate that clients are unable to receive any other subsidies (even if the client is normally eligible for that subsidy). It can be confusing, but we’re happy to discuss this further to help clear things up.

This is not correct. Meals on Wheels can provide meals to any participant who requests it. An intermediary provider may be required but we can help explain this further.

Volunteering with Meals on Wheels

No, all training is provided for most of our volunteer roles. For people wishing to volunteer for specific roles, such as IT/data support or marketing and communications, having knowledge and/or experience in those areas will be very beneficial.

It’s totally up to you! You can assist daily, weekly, fortnightly, monthly, or on one-off projects. We are always in desperate need for volunteer meal delivery drivers, so we welcome as much assistance as you can provide. We deliver meals Monday through Friday, excluding public holidays.
